COP 29 is the United Nations Climate Change Conference (currently taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan), at which representatives from around the world agree on the actions to address the climate crisis.

Priorities for delegates this time included limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius, helping vulnerable communities adapt to the effects of climate change and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. They also discussed ocean and climate change and climate empowerment for children and young people.

So, while the high-level talks draw to a close, we’ve teamed up with Sky for a special showcase of documentaries from Sky Kids, Sky Nature and theVirgin TV Ultra HD channelthat focus on wildlife conservation – another important issue directly affected by climate change, and one that shouldn’t be forgotten within the global conversation.

Tune in to Virgin TV Showcase (CH 100) from 5.30pm on Friday 22 November to watch three documentaries, one after the other, at no extra cost. Don’t worry if you miss them. They’ll be repeated at the same time on Saturday 23 November.

Here’s what you’ll be able to watch as part of our showcase.

Save Our Wildlife: An FYI Special

COP 29: Watch Wildlife Conservation Documentaries (13)

Friday 22 November + Saturday 23 November, 5.30pm, Virgin TV Showcase (CH 100)

The climate emergency requires urgent action because the world we leave behind – and the decisions we make today – will be inherited by the next generation. This special film from the makers of FYI: Weekly News Show hears from the heirs to our planet. Eight-year-old conservationist Aneeshwar and five friends explore six continents to find out what we can all do to help wildlife survive in the natural world.

Bear: Koala Hero

Friday 22 November + Saturday 23 November, 6pm, Virgin TV Showcase (CH 100)

If this story isn’t turned into a feature film, then Hollywood should shut up shop. Meet Bear, a rescue dog who was diagnosed with OCD as a puppy. Since being adopted, he has spent his life in Australia training to find endangered animals by scent. After so many bushfires in recent years, Bear’s heroism has led to hundreds of animals being saved who would never have survived without his help. Sobbing already. You can also watch more stunning shows and films on our Virgin TV Ultra HD channel.

Arctic From Above

COP 29: Watch Wildlife Conservation Documentaries (14)

Friday 22 November + Saturday 23 November, 7pm, Virgin TV Showcase (CH 100)

How is our changing planet affecting the animals that live in the Arctic? Wildlife biologist Liz Bonnin travels to one of Earth’s last great wildernesses to reveal fresh insights about its amazing creatures. She’ll come face to face with some of the icons of the Arctic, in the most extraordinary ways imaginable: taking biopsies from wild polar bears, fitting satellite trackers to bowhead whales, and netting a caribou from a helicopter. It’s the Arctic like you’ve never seen it before.

Give your electricals a second life – and keep them out of landfill

It’s not just world leaders at COP 29 who can change the world. Electrical devices are contributing to the increasing challenge of e-waste, which is the fastest-growing waste stream in the world. Find out what you can do to help combat it here.
