The next Mario Kart game has been revealed via the first official Nintendo Switch 2 trailer. The clip shows us a very short glimpse at what is most likely Mario Kart 9 running on the console.
Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 today in a short video. The clip focused solely on the system’s design, which matches recent leaks out of CES. While there was almost no software featured during the reveal, Mario Kart shows up at the very end of the clip, teasing the series’ next game.
The snippet we saw today is vague. We see Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach, and more characters riding around a track. On overhead shot shows a brief glimpse at more racers, like Pauline, Baby Mario, and Wario.

The track itself is a highway-themed course that takes racers through a desert with some American west influence. We see a roadside pitstop in the form of a Yoshi-themed diner and some big rig trucks on the road. It’s a straightforward track with long stretched, some sandy turns, and cactuses on the side.
We only get to see a bit of the Switch 2’s updated graphical power here, though the leap doesn’t seem too noticeable at a glance. It looks the way you’d expect a Mario game to look, though it’s certainly a crisp, smooth image that we see in the trailer.
That’s about all we’re getting for now. Nintendo did not release an official store page for it, nor reveal its official title. If you want to know more, you’ll likely have to tune in for the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2.

Following CES 2025, where accessory-maker Genki showed off a mock-up model of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo is now debunking recent leaks about its still unrevealed console.
Gamers have been glued to nearly every Nintendo Switch 2 rumor that has emerged in recent weeks (and there have been a lot of them), but the most recent was a supposed mockup of the console on the CES 2025 show floor. Until then, Nintendo had kept mum about the leaks, but now the company has broken its silence and issued a statement.

Nintendo Switch 2: everything we know so far
Rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 have been circulating for years. Whispers of the next-gen Nintendo console first started when The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was initially teased in 2019, then gained steam when the Switch OLED launched in 2021. The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal needs these 3 things to succeed
Nintendo is still eerily silent about its next console, but the clock is ticking. According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 will be unveiled within the next month and a half, by the end of this fiscal year. We don’t know exactly what form that will take yet, and rumors surrounding the device have been chaotic for over a year. While I don’t have any insider info or shocking leaks to share, all of this fervor around Switch 2 has me looking back at the eloquent reveal of the Nintendo Switch.
From its first teaser in October 2016, Nintendo handled the rollout of Switch masterfully. While Nintendo has since delisted the Switch’s debut trailer (it’s still available elsewhere on YouTube), it still stands as one of the best console reveals of all time. If Nintendo re-creates the three elements that made the Switch’s announcement so impactful, it’ll get its next-gen console started on the right foot.
